    Minature golf.

This season three finale of Buffy is winding up to be brilliant. I'm still in total shock over Joss' writing and handling of the whole Buffy/Angel/Faith dynamic. Arrrrrgh.

Also, is it wrong that I'm finding it almost impossible to dislike the mayor?

I'm not leaving yet, but I am taking precautions. Sometime in the next few days, I'll be backing up my journal to both GJ and IJ, and making sure that I have copies of all my fiction saved somewhere (I just don't want to lose it).

    --

You can find me on GJ as thysanotus, and on IJ as (surprise, surprise) thysanotus.

    Home.

    What's up?

(Don't even ask about the sunburnt lips, the incredible bruises or the shredded sidewall on the tyre). You can ask about the dirt, though.

Heading off on a field trip tomorrow lunchtime-ish til late Sunday night.

I really don't want to go, but at this stage there's no other option.

It never ceases to amaze me how much people can get involved in things that really aren't all that important.

The other botanists who work here (all the juniors, like me, anyway) have spent the last hour arguing about the best way to fill in and enter site sheets.

The front pages of site sheets are easy - you tick a page full of boxes, basically. Still, people forget, or use "/" to mean 'over' instead of 'and' in their vegetation descriptions, or they tick several non-complementary boxes (how can a site have both 'nil' rocks and 'continuous' rocks, I ask you), but generally, the problems encountered on the front page pale into insignificance when compared to the second page.

On the second page, the stratum table has to be filled in. Basically, this is the representation on paper of the dominant plant species in each height category. Under this table is the species list table, where opion differs as to whether you write down everything in the site, or if you just write down the species you haven't collected, or just the species you haven't already written down or if you leave the whole fucking thing blank.

Don't even get me started on the TWENTY MINUTE ARGUMENT they just had on whether to write down the actual heights of the plants or whether they should just write the stratum the plant belongs in (e.g. shrub - which abbreviates to sh - 0.5-1 m, or tr <5m, and so on).

And the reason I'm not getting involved? It's not because I don't have an opinion because the whole thing is tiny and really meaningless. No, it's because I'm worried I'll lose it over the "/" being used to mean 'over' instead of 'and'.

I think I need professional help. Or I've just been entering site sheets for four days too long.

Yes, a little more from the girl who's mainlining Buffy. (I've got the two final episodes of Season 2 to go, currently).

&! Dingoes Ate My Baby is the best name for a band ever.
&! Xander is surprisingly attractive in speedos.
&! Cordelia is growing on me.
&! Why is evil!Angel so much hotter than Angel?
&! Crossovers. Supernatural (Something Wicked). Buffy (Killed By Death). Hell, even Heart (poor Madison!) and Phases (Oz, baby!). Can anyone else see it?
&! Shane West AND Wentworth Miller. In speedos. Was Joss trying to kill all his fans? I mean, seriously.

Okay. That's all I've got - for now. I'm sure I'll be back later.

(And I still have another five seasons to go!!).

    1. My mother spoilt me for Buffy. She doesn't even watch the show.

She sat down for a minute to watch part of Ted (2.11) with us, and spoilt me for Season 5. I hate her.

My parents are now forbidden to say anything about Buffy to me at all.

    2. Apparently, some of my cousins from Italy are coming to Perth for three weeks in August. My nonna seems to be under the impression that my sister and I are going to show them around.

There are a few problems with this. Firstly, I don't speak (much) Italian any more. I can say "My name is..." and count to thirty, and say that I'm fine and how are you, but that's it. My cousins don't speak much English. I'm foreseeing hi-jinks already.

    3. I'm half-way through Season 2 of Buffy. Hopefully by tonight, I'll be onto Season 3. Of course, this negates any 'having-a-life' events, but that's okay. I have Buffy. I don't need friends!

Is it that time of the month?

"Oh, the solidarity of the sisters of the moon. The parallels between a woman’s mystic cycles echoing the eternal procession of death and rebirth. The bonds of womynhood reinforced as we dance the slow steps the sacred cycle together. Connected to the moon above and the earth below. Oh, the glorious mystery of being a woman.

    Oh, get FUCKED."

You can read the rest (and try not to kill yourself suppressing the giggles, wind up choking, and have a workmate try to adminster the Heimlich, as happened to me), here.

(This would be a really good time to turn this into an icon, I feel).

Merri and I have returned triumphant from our quest!! (What quest? The one to borrow Buffy DVDs from Dave, duh).

Our faithful, blue-painted steed was noble and fast (and we only got lost once and that was totally the council's fault for not posting street signs).

So now we've returned, and I'm about to put on my white-trash pyjamas and watch it. Yay!

So right now, I'm sitting in the dark with my laptop eating peanut butter scooped out of the jar with my finger.

    Discuss.

Oh, and I'm not going on that trip for work next week. Uh-uh. Apparently, the survey area is a heritage area, and, as such, the local Aboriginals consider it a male sacred site.

(For those people unfamiliar, basically, males only are allowed in the area).

I did offer to buy some strapping tape, but for some reason that didn't go down so well...

Maybe I have been in the office for too long.

What do we get up to when we're in the field?

    This. )

Also, I went on a 'date' on Saturday night. (Read: I went to a guy's house and we watched movies). His name is Luke. I got a kiss when I left (at 3:30 in the morning) and a promise for more movie nights.

I feel funny talking about this kind of thing because some part of my brain is convinced that even talking about it is going to jinx it and so really, clearly, I should just never say anything to anyone about my private life because if I do it'll all fail and nothing will ever work out for me. *deep breath* Sorry about that giant pile of crazy right there.

    Um.

This morning I got up at 4:30 am (I know. 4:30 am. Ridiculous), and, together with [info]jezzabe and [info]stick_around, made my way to Borders in the city. We met up with Dee there, and spent the next few hours laughing, eating too many McDonald's hash browns and trying to avoid those pesky television cameras (I don't really want my workmates to know how I spent my Saturday morning, kthnx).

We walked out of there, clutching our copies of the last book in our sweaty little hands at 7:10 am (no love to the guys outside who shouted spoilers at us as we left), then we came back to Dee's place, and we've been reading ever since.

The other three are still going; I just finished.

After my resolution of the other week, I gave in and emailed Tom, all of four words:

    "Hey. Are you dead?"

I got an email back saying that no, he wasn't dead, and he's had a really bad cold, and he just got a new phone that he doesn't know how to work... all of which sounded vaguely suspicious and kind of like "I'm-trying-to-end-this-without-you-noticing" kind of thing.

So I replied and said I was sorry to hear he was sick, and:

"And, look (and I’m only saying this because I feel like I’ve been chasing you down the last few weeks, and I don’t like feeling like I’m forcing someone to talk to me), if you’re not into this anymore, all you have to do is say so."

    His reply?

"Always happy to talk with you – it seems like we could be better value as friends, that way I wont piss you off and theres no expectations"

Why do guys insist on playing these games? Jesus. I'm not going to flip out on you if you actually tell me that you're not feeling it anymore and could we just be friends instead. I'm more likely to be pissed off with you if you stop getting in touch with me for two fucking weeks after being all over me previously.

It does make me feel less guilty about the date I've got on Saturday night, though. >.>

This is going to get really really interesting when people come back from self-imposed hibernation awaiting the final book.

If anyone cares, I'm thysanotus on GJ as well.

Am so pleased right now that I didn't spring for a permanent account. I mean, really.

There are some really interesting comments. Note how the OP never actually comes out and answers any of the questions.

    EDIT EDIT EDIT:
There are now DEATHLY HALLOWS SPOILERS in the comments to the [info]lj_biz post I linked to above. Read at your own risk!

I could be really poetic and say something about the rain beating on the window, but instead I'll just tell you what's happening - it's pissing down outside. I'm not looking forward to going home in this weather. (Still, going home may be marginally more productive than I've been all day).

I am really really craving a grilled cheese (preferable with some bacon on the side, and maybe a few slices of tomato), or some mac and cheese. Yes. Except that I know we won't have the ingredients for either in the house and I'm not sure that I feel up to making a trip through the rain to try and procure supplies before the shops close. Sometimes I hate living in Western Australia, where the shops close at 5 (or 6, if you're lucky) on a weeknight and a Saturday, (unless it's Thursday, and then they get to stay open til 9), and can't open at all on a Sunday (bar a few exceptions, but they're city stores and have no relevance here, because it's not Sunday).

I should possibly stop looking at pictures of grilled cheese sadwiches online because it's just making me want one more and more.

Also, I bet Dean made Sammy grilled cheese.

    Nnnnnghhhhhhhhh.

I saw Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix last night.
and yes, I did dress up... )

[info]meredyth_13 organised a private showing of the movie for us, and there was dressing up and much merriment to be had by all. I really enjoyed the movie, although I'm torn as to whether I think it's my favourite or not. (I still like Prisoner of Azkaban a lot).

Anyway. Let's just say that I'm very, very excited for the next book now. Oh yes.

Thought I should actually let you lot know before I left this time.

I'm going to Melbourne tomorrow for about a week (I'll be home late Wednesday night). I'll be around, here and there, so it should be just like normal.

Actually, on that, I think I'm going to try to make more of an effort to comment. I read everything (no, I never use filters), I'm just lazy when it comes to commenting.

Anyway, yay holidays! If you're in Melbourne and want to catch up sometime between Thursday July 12th and Wednesday July 18th, give me a call (0419 938 709). I promise to be polite and wait until the second date for the kissing.

Five questions from the ever-lovely [info]meredyth_13, and others!

things you always wanted to know but were afraid to ask... )

So, mostly because today I'm uninspired and lazy, rather than getting you lot to leave a comment for me to interview you, why don't you drop me a comment with a question you have for me.

I promise I'll answer it, and edit the question and reply into this post.

Nothing's off-limits, so ask away. (Anon commenting on, IP logging off, as always).

Thank you for all your comments and love.

I commented to a friend earlier this evening that I find it hard to comment on other people's journals when they're dealing with something like this - I always end up feeling awkward and not knowing what to say, because really, I always feel that nothing I can say is going to make a difference.

But you know what? I realised that it really does. Just to know someone out there is thinking about you is amazing.

    Thank you.

    ♥!
